Lojwa Sandcastle

This was the bar on Lojwa, until the competition moved in. Though we didn't sell booze, it was b.y.o.b. and as much as you could carry. Party on.

Hi Mike Dagger,
First of all, thanks for this site. I have just retired, for the 2nd time, and started searching for old friends, schoolmates, and remembering my military history. Your site is very special because my unit, B Co, 84th Eng Bn, along with C Co, were the first units deployed. We built the base camp, and started some work on Runit. Yes I remember the long hot days, and at first trying to pour a concrete pad using salt water, and without plastic under the concrete. The next morning, the pad broke into dust at the touch. Your picture of the Lojwa Sand Castle brings back a lot of memories. I started the "club" system in that building. I got a $300.00 credit from Holmes & Narver Club System and started the cold sodas and beer for our guys. I was the first barkeep and manager. We even had a few USO Shows come and visit us. All Good memories. I was also the Base Camp Operations SGT, and for a while, Acting B Co. 1st SGT. I would like very much to talk to anyone abut Enewetok.
Thanks, Billy R Reed Sr.

Mike,

I just happen to come across your blog and it brings back some great memories. I would very much like to touch base with anyone who served on the clean up project between July 1979 thru Jan 1980. I was on TDY from Co C 15h ENG BN from Fort Lewis. I remember a bunch of us went to HI first before heading to the islands. It was the hardest times but also the best of times.
